Bio
As a trial lawyer, Steven Hurbis is dedicated to helping others. In eight short years, he has served as lead trial counsel on cases that resulted in settlements totaling over $64 million and was involved in additional resolutions totaling nearly $35 million. Steven has also been involved in a number of high-profile malpractice cases. As lead trial counsel, he has won two medical malpractice jury trials in excess of $1 million, where the insurance companies offered nothing. In addition, he worked on a $500 million settlement against Michigan State University, and a $130 million jury verdict in which he served as second chair.
With a Bachelor of Science in political science from Eastern Michigan University, Steven competed in the EMU Mock Trial Association for three years as an undergraduate. He earned a full tuition scholarship based on his academic success and graduated magna cum laude from the University of Illinois College of Law where he competed in both Mock Trial and Moot Court. Recognized as the Best Overall Advocate in his school’s Trial Team, Steven showed promise and talent in law school. A distinguished student, he earned the Dr. Paul M. Lisneck Excellence in Trial Advocacy and Ethics Award and the Rickert Award for Excellence in Advocacy. Since graduation, Steven has been named a Super Lawyers Rising Star for five years running and currently serves on the Michigan Association for Justice’s Executive Board. Steven has been routinely recognized as not only one of the best “young” trial lawyers in Michigan, but one of the best trial lawyers in Michigan.
Devoted to those who cannot fight for themselves, Steven became a trial attorney to stand up for clients’ rights. In his free time, he enjoys traveling “up north” with his family and very badly playing golf.
