Michael D. Russell

Michael Russell came to Fieger law after a diverse 20-year legal career. Mike has served as a litigation and trial attorney with several prominent plaintiff and defense firms, and as a senior trial attorney with a major insurance company. In 2004, after being requested to assist the Detroit City Council’s efforts to address high insurance rates in the City of Detroit, Mike interrupted his litigation practice to become a legal public policy analyst for the Detroit City Council. Mike next went on to become Assistant Wayne County Corporation Counsel, where he spearheaded the nationally renowned Nuisance Abatement Program, teaching at seminars across the country. In 2011, he returned to litigation, opening his own law office, before joining Fieger Law in 2015. During his legal career, Mike has received several awards, including the prestigious 2018 Michigan Lawyer’s Weekly “Leaders in the Law “ Award, the Michigan State University College of Law-BLSA Humanitarian Award, the DCL Wolverine Student Bar Association’s Ron Brown Visionary Award and the Tia Nedd Gift of Life Award-for his kidney donation to his older brother. Mike was an adjunct professor at Wayne State University, where he has taught for over 10 years. He has served on the executive boards of the WSU Alumni Association and the Minority Organ and Tissue Transplant Education Program (MOTTEP) Foundation. Russell has been married to his wife Shelle, for 37 years and they have two children. Mike is a former Editor-In-Chief of The South End, WSU’s daily newspaper, a former WSU football player, and a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.
