Sheldon M. Adelson
Sheldon Adelson’s long and successful career as a personal injury attorney came full circle with his move to Fieger Law in January 2015. Adelson works just down the street from where he opened his first private law firm in 1975.
Adelson earned his Juris Doctorate from Detroit College of Law and worked as a clerk and attorney with Lebenbom, Morganroth & Handler, P.C. for five years before opening his own practice on 10 Mile Road in Southfield. As business grew, he moved to Travelers Tower on Evergreen Road in Southfield, then into a building on Northwestern Highway which he constructed with several partners.
In 1995, after 25 years on his own, he accepted a generous offer to launch a pre-suit department at The Sam Bernstein Law Firm, where he worked for 19 years.
“The position allowed me to run an entire department and get first crack at settling the automobile negligence cases,” Adelson explains. “When I left, we had 12 legal assistants and six supervising attorneys.”
Last year, Adelson joined Fieger Law because of the firm’s reputation for handling heavy litigation.
Adelson’s entrepreneurial streak began at a young age and has continued throughout his life. At age 11, he founded Adelson Landscaping Co, which he ran until starting college at age 17. At 22, he launched American Adjustors and Investigators, Inc., helping insurance companies settle cases with injured clients.
After earning a degree in mortuary science and his license as a funeral director and embalmer, Adelson enrolled in law school and embarked on a new path. Adelson also is a licensed real estate broker in the state of Michigan.
“I don’t like the law, I love it,” he says. “Number one, I love helping people, and number two, it is a real challenge for me to take these cases and determine a direction and method in which they need to be handled. Every case is a little bit different.”
Adelson estimates he has handled about 5,000 cases over the decades, and says he looks forward to helping Fieger Law create an auto negligence pre-suit department.
Adelson and his wife, Marsha, have three sons who share their father’s entrepreneurial spirit, owning their own ophthalmology practice and an independent cosmetic laser treatment and tattoo removal center. The couple also has seven grandchildren.
